Dr. Mitchell Burnes (BHSc)

Acupuncturist & Owner of The Meridian Way

I have always been fascinated by East culture and customs. The idea of Honour and looking out for and taking care of others lead me to a life of helping people.

Before Acupuncture I was a Motor Mechanic for 16 years. During this time I realised the toll of long work hours has on the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of the body and thought "something needs to change".

Enter Acupuncture! Moving from fixing cars to fixing people, nothing has made me happier then seeing positive health changes in my clients.

A Bit About Me

I have been practising Taekwondo for 20 years, along with training in many other forms of martial arts from all around the globe. Currently I am practicing Shaolin KungFu - learning the art of meditation, Taiqi, and Qigong to help improve my own wellbeing.

I am a proud nerd at heart, loving all things gaming - from console to board. I spend my down time playing Dungeons and Dragons with friends, yes, I play D&D.

Oh, and how can I forget - TEA!! Another passion of mine. Fair warning, if you mention tea there will be a in depth discussion about it. Siting back enjoying a nice rolled Jasmine tea while tending to my Bonsai trees is true relaxation.

The Meridian Way |
Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture

People often ask "Why Acupuncture?". It started through my martial arts studies learning about vital points to disarm. I learned that they are actually acupoints which can be used to HEAL.

This sent me down the rabbit hole reading about Acupuncture and Chinese medicine, while also learning more about one of my idols Bruce Lee.

Blame my wife! While sitting in the airport on a holiday I confided in her about my new found interest. While I was off getting food, she booked me an introduction tour of the Endeavour College in Adelaide; and what can I say, I was hooked. After 6 and half years of part-time study, I completed my bachelors degree in Acupuncture.

Toward the end of study, the big question started to arise - where would I work?

I had a vision of the way I wanted to help people - to bring medical help to those that need it, all while maintaining a relaxed and calm approach to treatments.

So, with the help of family and guidance from a few lecturers from Endeavour, I took the plunge and went out on my own - securing a clinic and begining the hard road to growing a successful business.

Philosophy

The human body, like the world around us, is in a perpetual state of balance and imbalance. Just as introducing an animal can throw off an ecosystem, injuries, thoughts, and experiences can throw our bodies into disharmony. Understanding that many cases of discomfort or pain are often just branches with the root cause being hidden deep within.

Acupuncture itself is more than just an intervention to pain, it is a journey to find your true self and understand what the universe and your own body is trying to tell you at any given moment.
